REFLECTION
Living in South East Asia, I never thought I would look into a culture outside of my own country for a project such as this but I was glad I did. Exploring the Day of the Dead opened up my eyes to cultures I wouldn't normally look into it due to it being foreign to me. At first, I only chose Day of the Dead due to thinking that it would be easy since there were plenty of references and things we could do with the culture as a whole. Looking into the culture of Day of the Dead, I was fascinated by the culture that I didn't know much about and how colorful everything was.
It was really fun doing this project despite my unfamiliarity with the culture. It gives way for lots of creativity on our part and pushed me out of my comfort zone and explore something new and exciting. This project was no doubt challenging though, having to do what I can for the group in order to not slow anyone down while balancing out my life and other workloads. It was really hard for me to keep up since I'm not too used to working with other people despite having gone through Foundation. As me and my groupmates worked together though, we also managed to learn more about each other's cultures and how we think. Some of their cultures were even similar with mine despite our differences. I'm always genuinely grateful to our group leader being patient with me.
As an aspiring artist and writer, learning more about other cultures give me much inspiration and opens up my worldview more than before. This culture was no exception, with the interview of the Day of The Dead being my favorite part of this entire project. It gives you a look into how life there is for them. It was a truly wholesome recollection of his memories from his time in Mexico. It makes me want to look into it more. Through talking to him, it turns out that Mexico is very friendly and warm towards foreigners which was not very common considering how many other countries don't like foreigners. This project was an amazing journey and I'm grateful to my leader and groupmates for helping me as a new student here.
